Secondary Guarding Protection
JMS Powered Access has always had a policy to purchase equipment for its access hire fleet with the very best and latest in safety specification.
In recent years, every boom lift we’ve purchased has been factory fitted with Secondary Guarding as standard.
These devices help protect operators. When activated, it stops further movement and activates audible and visual warning devices
Here are the devices fitted to our fleet of boom lifts.
Genie LifeGuard
The Lift Guard™ Contact Alarm is designed to alert ground personnel when an operator makes contact with the platform control panel, interrupting boom movement, sounding an alarm and flashing a warning light.
The system is designed to be unobtrusive, featuring an activation cable fitted above the boom lift’s control panel.
When the activation cable is tripped, the lift and drive functions are disabled at the platform. Then audio visual warnings will activate alerting others that assistance may be needed. These notifications will continue until the system is reset — simply click the activation cable back into place.
A key feature of the new system is the “free-movement zone” between an activation cable platform control panel that may allow for operator mobility once the system is activated, to either reset the system or remove themselves from the hazard.
Nifty SiOPS
Stops Machine Movement Instantly
Mobile Elevating Work Platforms offer a safe and efficient way to work at height.
Occasionally however, operators can become trapped between the machine and surrounding objects forcing their torso onto the controls. In extreme cases, this can result in sustained involuntary operation of the machine’s controls which can inadvertently move the machine and operator towards the obstacle, worsening the injuries caused.

JLG Skyguard
Enhanced Control Panel Protection
SkyGuard® Technology Standard on All Boom Lifts
Operators can experience enhanced control panel protection with SkyGuard technology, standard on all JLG® boom lifts. Developed after extensive research and testing, the SkyGuard sensor, when activated, stops all functions in use at the time.

Horn sounds upon operator contact with the sensor system.
The auto reverse feature activates for most functions.
The reverse functionality is the only feature of its kind in the market. After stopping the machine, it temporarily reverses, or “undoes,” most functions that were in use at the time of activation for less than a second’s worth of time.
The control system automatically accesses the functions in use by the operator at the time of activation – for a small period of time – is able to reverse that sequence, with the exception of certain functions.
Advantages
- Can be activated from a variety of angles and provides additional protection without impeding or reducing the work envelope of the boom lift
- With no movable parts, there’s no need for scheduled or additional maintenance
- Break away feature for extreme conditions on bar-style system
- Resets by cycling foot switch, e-stop, or replacing magnet on SkyLine
- Does not increase the platform profile or limit the use of the platform
Haulotte Activshield Bar
Safety is not an option
The Haulotte Activ’Shield Bar system provides the highest level of safety for aerial platform operators.
In an entrapment situation, the operator is pushed towards the bar and the machine stops automatically.
The large clearance space, the Safety Gap, protects the operator from the entrapment.
Highest level of safety for aerial platform operators
Avoids entrapment situation
No machine dowtime

Skyjack SGE
The Skyjack SGE system features a sensor bar that, when pushed, instantly stops all functions and initiates an audible siren and high intensity flashing beacon.
If the bar is released within one second the siren beacon will cease and the selected function will return. If pressure is applied for more than one second the siren and flashing beacon will continue and the engine will stop, halting all functions until reset.
The applicable emergency controls can still be operated to bring the platform down to ground safely. If the system is accidentally activated by the operator, it can be easily reset using the illuminated push button on the control box
